The students who complete totally 27 credit hours by taking requisite and elective courses offered by the program and by doing practice, and also who prepare master's thesis under the supervision of a supervisor and are successful at the thesis oral exam, are eligible to get master of social work diploma.
The courses students take are determined in consultation with their supervisor. The program duration is of two years, one year for theory and the second for their thesis.
Having studied for bachelor's degree at the any department of social work or other related disciplines (psychology, sociology, philosophy etc.) is the requirement for applying to the master of social work program.
The candidates of other related disciplines may be asked to take two-to-twelve credit hours of professional courses additionally at the scientific preparation program.
Students who have completed Social Work Bachelor's Program and comply with the terms and conditions of Hacettepe University Graduate Education, Training and the Exam Regulations. Students who apply to the program from other bachelor's programs and succeed passing the entrance examination are mandated to take some courses form the Scientific Preparation Program of the Department of Social Work. Students who fail the Scientific Preparation Program cannot continue the Master's Program. Consequently, it is not possible to take the courses form the Scientific Preparation Program and the Master's Program simultaneously.
1. The necessary credit for graduation from Master Program is 27 credits (Must courses 12 credits- Elective courses 15 credits) and 120 AKTS which is applied for students first enrolled in the 2020-2021 fall term. Details about the courses are written in the table.
2. In this two year program, first year is dedicated to the theoretical courses and second year to dissertation.
3. Students who do not have a social work bachelor degree can be asked to take 2-12 additional courses as part of preparatory class.
4. Along with Social Work graduates, graduates from related fields (psychology, Sociology and Philosophy etc.) can also apply to the Social Work Master’s Program.
The objective of the master's program is to train social workers for a range of leadership and advanced practice roles one of the fields of family welfare, child and youth welfare or health settings of social work. While students will be prepared to practice at specific intervention levels, and with specialized skills, all will be thoroughly grounded in knowledge of psychosocial development, social welfare policies, and social work organizations.
